Da Nang

Da Nang is a major port city located in central Vietnam, positioned along the South China Sea coast between Hanoi to the north and Ho Chi Minh City to the south. With a population of approximately 1.2 million, Da Nang is Vietnam's third-largest city and one of its most important economic and tourist destinations. The city combines a dynamic modern economy, pristine sandy beaches, spectacular mountain scenery, and proximity to some of the most remarkable ancient cultural sites in Southeast Asia.

Da Nang has been an important port since ancient times. The area was part of the ancient Cham Kingdom, which left extraordinary architectural monuments in the region. The Cham Museum in Da Nang, founded by the French in 1919, houses the world's largest collection of Cham sculpture, including elaborately carved sandstone figures of Hindu gods and temple decorations dating from the 7th to 15th centuries. The ancient Cham towers of My Son, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located about 60 kilometers from the city, are among the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia.

The city's beaches are among the most beautiful in Vietnam. My Khe Beach, stretching for miles of fine white sand along the city's eastern shore, was ranked by Forbes magazine as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The Non Nuoc Beach and the adjacent Marble Mountains — five limestone and marble hills named after the five elements — combine natural beauty with spiritual significance, as the hills contain ancient Buddhist and Hindu shrines, caves, and temples that have been venerated for centuries.

The Golden Bridge (Cầu Vàng), opened in 2018 at the Ba Na Hills resort in the mountains above the city, became one of Vietnam's most photographed landmarks — a pedestrian bridge held up by two enormous sculpted stone hands, set against dramatic mountain and cloud scenery. The Dragon Bridge over the Han River, which breathes fire and water on weekend nights, is another striking modern landmark that has become a symbol of Da Nang's development and ambition.

Da Nang has invested heavily in tourism infrastructure over the past two decades, developing world-class beach resorts along My Khe and Non Nuoc beaches, international convention facilities, and a growing array of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues. The local food scene is outstanding, with Quang noodles, banh mi, fresh seafood, and a variety of central Vietnamese specialties drawing food lovers from around the world.

The city is served by Da Nang International Airport, one of Vietnam's busiest, with direct flights to many cities across Asia. With its central location between Hoi An and Hue — both UNESCO World Heritage Sites — Da Nang is an ideal base for exploring the cultural riches of central Vietnam, and its combination of beaches, mountains, history, and modern amenities makes it one of Asia's most compelling travel destinations.
