Eger is a historic city located in the Northern Hungary Mountains, in the valley of the Eger Stream at the southern edge of the Bükk Hills. With a population of approximately 55,000, it serves as the administrative center of Heves County. The Eger Thermal Bath is a large spa complex offering pools of naturally heated mineral water, wellness facilities, and outdoor swimming areas that attract visitors year-round. The geothermal waters of the region have been used for therapeutic purposes for centuries, including during the Ottoman period, when several hammams were constructed.

Eger is home to Eszterházy Károly University, which traces its roots to a Jesuit college founded in 1740. The institution plays an important role in the cultural and intellectual life of the city and the broader region. The city's transport connections include regular rail and bus services to Budapest, approximately 140 kilometers to the southwest, making it a popular destination for both domestic and international visitors.
