Evaton is a township located in the Sedibeng District Municipality in Gauteng Province, South Africa, situated approximately 50 kilometers south of Johannesburg. Part of the greater Vaal Triangle industrial region, Evaton falls within the Emfuleni Local Municipality and forms an important residential and commercial center for the broader area. With a population of several hundred thousand, it is one of the largest townships in South Africa's economic heartland.

Evaton has a significant place in South African history. It was one of the few places where Black South Africans could own freehold land under apartheid, making it unusual and giving it a different character from many other townships that were created under forced removals. Established in the early 20th century, Evaton became a community with a strong sense of ownership and identity. In 1956, it was the site of the Evaton Bus Boycott, a major anti-apartheid resistance action in which residents boycotted local bus services for months to protest fare increases — an early example of organized economic resistance against apartheid policy.
