Himeji is a city in Hyogo Prefecture in the Kansai region of western Japan, located approximately 50 kilometers west of Kobe along the coastal plain facing the Seto Inland Sea. With a population of approximately 530,000, Himeji is the largest city in Hyogo Prefecture outside of the Kobe-Osaka conurbation and is internationally celebrated as the home of Himeji Castle, widely considered the most beautiful and best-preserved feudal castle in Japan.
