Nha Trang is a coastal city and the capital of Khanh Hoa Province in south-central Vietnam, located along a sweeping bay on the South China Sea approximately 1,200 kilometers north of Ho Chi Minh City and 500 kilometers south of Da Nang. The city occupies a narrow coastal plain backed by the Truong Son mountain range and fronts one of the most beautiful natural harbors in Southeast Asia, with a crescent-shaped beach stretching nearly 6 kilometers along the bay. Offshore, a cluster of islands adds to the dramatic and inviting seascape.

Nha Trang has a population of approximately 450,000 residents and is one of the most important tourism centers in Vietnam. The Po Nagar Cham Towers, a complex of temple towers built between the 7th and 12th centuries and dedicated to the goddess Po Nagar, stand on a hilltop north of the city center and remain an active site of worship for both Vietnamese Buddhists and practitioners of Cham traditions. The towers are one of the most significant surviving examples of Cham architecture in Vietnam.

Hon Tre Island is home to Vinpearl Land, a large amusement park complex accessible by a scenic cable car over the sea. Island-hopping boat tours, often featuring music, dancing, and floating wine bars, are a famously exuberant and popular activity in the bay. The Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography, one of the oldest marine research institutions in Vietnam, maintains a public aquarium and museum documenting the rich marine biodiversity of the region.

Nha Trang is served by Cam Ranh International Airport, located about 35 kilometers south of the city center, with direct flights connecting it to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, and numerous international destinations in Asia. The city is also served by the Reunification Express railway line, which connects it to Hanoi in the north and Ho Chi Minh City in the south. Local transportation within the city includes taxis, motorbike taxis (xe om), and a growing number of ride-sharing apps.

Nha Trang is home to the Nha Trang University, a regional university offering programs in fisheries, economics, and technology, reflecting the city's maritime and commercial identity. The presence of the Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography and related research bodies also makes the city a modest but genuine center for marine science in Vietnam.

A remarkable natural fact about the Khanh Hoa region is that it is the world's leading producer of wild-harvested bird's nests, gathered from the saliva of swiftlets nesting on sea cliffs and island caves. Bird's nest soup, prized in Chinese cuisine as a delicacy and health food, commands extraordinary prices and represents a significant economic activity in the province.
