Reynosa is a major border city located in the state of Tamaulipas in northeastern Mexico, directly across the Rio Grande from McAllen and Hidalgo in the state of Texas, United States. It is the largest city in Tamaulipas and one of the most important border cities along the entire 3,100-kilometer US-Mexico border. With a population of approximately 700,000 people in the city and over one million in the metropolitan area, Reynosa is a highly dynamic urban center defined by its position as a critical crossing point for commerce, people, and trade between Mexico and the United States.

The city's border position means that the Reynosa-Hidalgo international crossing is one of the busiest land ports of entry in the world, handling enormous volumes of commercial truck traffic carrying goods between Mexico and the United States. The economic integration of Reynosa with the US side of the border — the McAllen-Reynosa metro area functions in many ways as a single binational economic region — is one of the most visible examples of the deep interconnection between the two countries' economies.

Despite its economic importance, Reynosa has faced significant security challenges related to organized crime and drug trafficking, which have periodically affected the quality of life for residents and disrupted cross-border activities.
