Santo Domingo Este (Eastern Santo Domingo) is a municipality in the Santo Domingo Province on the eastern bank of the Ozama River, forming an essential part of the greater Santo Domingo metropolitan area in the Dominican Republic. With a population exceeding 800,000, it is one of the most populous municipalities in the country and a vital component of the capital region's urban fabric. Santo Domingo Este developed primarily in the second half of the 20th century as the national capital grew beyond its historical boundaries on the western bank of the Ozama.
