The borough occupies an important position in the urban geography of the capital, containing some of the city's most historically and commercially significant areas.

The TAPO bus terminal, officially the Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros de Oriente, is located within the borough and serves as one of the city's major intercity bus hubs.
