Zhu Cheng City

Zhucheng, also rendered as Zhu Cheng City, is a county-level city administered by Weifang in Shandong Province, eastern China. Located in the southeastern part of Shandong, the city sits in a region of fertile plains and rolling hills, with the Mihe and Zhucheng rivers flowing through its territory. With a population of approximately 1.1 million, Zhucheng is an important agricultural and industrial center in the region and has gained international recognition as a world-class site for dinosaur fossil discoveries.

The history of Zhucheng spans thousands of years. Archaeological evidence points to human settlement in the area during the Neolithic period, and the city has been an administrative center under various names throughout Chinese imperial history. The region was part of the ancient state of Qi during the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, contributing to the intellectual and cultural heritage of Shandong.

Zhucheng is globally renowned in paleontological circles as the location of some of the most remarkable dinosaur fossil discoveries in the world. The area has yielded an extraordinary concentration of hadrosaur (duck-billed dinosaur) fossils, including what is believed to be the world's largest dinosaur fossil bone bed, covering an area of over 2,600 square meters. The Zhucheng Dinosaur National Geological Park and several local museums display dinosaur fossils and reconstructed skeletons, attracting researchers and fossil enthusiasts from around the world. The sheer density and quality of the Cretaceous-age fossils found here have made Zhucheng one of the most important dinosaur discovery sites on earth.

Beyond its prehistoric fame, Zhucheng is one of China's most important agricultural counties, producing grain, vegetables, and peanuts in abundance. The city is also a significant center for food processing and the automobile parts manufacturing industry. The Weichai Group and other industrial enterprises have contributed to the development of Zhucheng's manufacturing sector.

The local culture reflects the traditions of Shandong, with strong Confucian values, warm hospitality, and a cuisine known for hearty dishes made from locally grown produce. The city's agricultural fairs and cultural festivals celebrate the rhythms of rural life that have shaped the region for generations.

Zhucheng is connected to major regional cities by expressways and rail, and the expansion of Shandong's transportation network has made the city more accessible to visitors. Its unique combination of extraordinary dinosaur heritage, productive agricultural landscape, and deep roots in Chinese history makes Zhucheng a distinctive and fascinating city in eastern China.
